IPitomy PBX Install Guide

This page is a generic guide to installing an IPitomy PBX.


In order to install an IPitomy PBX you will need:

  1. PBX
  2. Router
  3. Managed Switch (Unmanaged will work but is not recommended)
  4. Miscellaneous CAT5e or CAT6 patch cables
  5. A connection to the Internet is required for full PBX functionality 


Connection of the IP PBX requires a "clean" network and PC to access the PBX GUI (Graphical User Interface). Use of a web browser is imperative and the most fundamental element of IP PBX installation. If you are unfamiliar with browsers (MSIE, Chrome, Firefox) you should not attempt to install an IP - based product. Seek guidance and assistance from a network/PC competent individual.


Steps:

  1. Take it out of the box. (Everything)
  2. If this PBX will be installed into an existing network, determine that network configuration
    1. What is the LAN IP Address of the router?
    2. What is the DHCP Range allocation?
    3. What is the current QOS settings?
    4. What devices are currently on the network?
  3. Determine the network configuration
    1. What will be the LAN IP Addressing Scheme? 192.168.xxx.xxx, 172.16-31.xxx.xxx, or 10.xxx.xxx.xxx
    2. What will be the DHCP Range?
      1. There are some (VERY FEW) devices on the network that should have Static IP Addresses assigned. They are:
        1. IP PBX
        2. Router
        3. Managed Switch(es)
      2. All other devices should be automatically assigned IP Addresses (DHCP)
  4. Confirm the IP Address of the PBX
    1. When the IPitomy IP PBX is shipped it is shipped with an IP Address of 192.168.1.249. This can be used on most networks since most networks are configured 192.168.1.xxx
    2. If the IP PBX is being installed on an existing network with a different IP Addressing scheme, the PBX IP Address must be changed reference: Console_Changing_IP_Address
    3. If the existing network or newly deployed network has/will have the same Subnet (192.168.1.xxx) no changes are required.
  5. Make the following connections:
    1. Connect the Router to the internet
      1. Connect the WAN (Internet) port of the router to the Internet Service Provider INTERNET connection
    2. Connect the Data Switch to the Router
      1. Connect one of the UPLink data ports of the Data Switch to the LAN port of the router
    3. Connect the PBX to the Data Switch
      1. The PBX can be installed on any available port of the Data Switch
    4. Connect the PC to the Data Switch
      1. The PC can be installed on any available port of the Data Switch
    5. Ignore the unused ports on the router (aka don't use them just because they're there.)
  6. Open a browser on the PC 
  7. Navigate to the IP PBX
    1. If you changed the IP Address of the IP PBX in Step 4.2 use that address in the ADDRESS bar of the browser
    2. If you have installed the IP PBX using it's factory IP Address, use that address (192.168.1.249)
    3. You MUST include the page reference "/ippbx" at the end of the IP Address in order to connect to the IP PBX GUI.
      1. Example: 192.168.1.249/ippbx
  8. You should now have access to the IP PBX GUI and be able to make changes.
